In response to the decision by the UK government to allow BN(O) passport holders from Hong Kong to live, work and study in the UK, in 2022 British Future helped set up and hosted the Welcoming Committee for Hong Kongers.
With up to three million people eligible to take up the offer, this highlighted the need for a coordinated response across the country to welcome significant numbers of migrants from the region and help them to settle successfully in the UK.
The Welcoming Committee has helped to coordinate efforts to support Hong Kongers to settle in the UK, from civil society, communities, business, education and government, across the UK’s nations and regions. It supported welcoming organisations to share their stories, in the media and online, and conducted research to inform policy and share best practice. Regrettably, funding for the Welcoming Committee for Hong Kongers ceased in 2024.
British Future remains committed to supporting the welcoming and integration of Hong Kongers in the UK, and understanding the challenges that they face. Contact us at info@britishfuture.org if you’d like to discuss future projects regarding Hong Kongers.
