Understanding Anti-Muslim Hostility: Foundations for Action sets out new research from British Future for the British Muslim Trust examining public attitudes towards Muslims in Britain, including the sweeping hostility felt by 1 in 6 people.
It also explores British Muslim attitudes and experiences of hostility and prejudice, with more than half of Muslims saying they experienced prejudice in the last year.
The research is based on a survey of 1,013 Muslims in Britain and a further nationally representative survey of 2,000 GB adults by Number Cruncher Politics.
This report is the first of a series of publications drawing on research into public attitudes towards Muslims, with the aim of understanding the extent and nature of prejudice and hostility so as to tackle it more effectively. Further research will include qualitative discussions with Muslim and non-Muslim respondents to dig deeper into underlying attitudes, stereotypes and the roots of prejudice and develop detailed recommendations.
