A major new study of ethnic minority and majority attitudes and experience of racial inequality finds consensus that progress has gone backwards, but disagreement over its causes.
Divides by age and politics were found to be deeper than those by ethnicity, but with broad recognition of the realities of prejudice.
Efforts to address inequality in the workplace emerged as a key priority for change.
‘Race and fairness in fractious times: Public priorities for racial equity’ draws on extensive online surveys with representative samples of 2,009 White adults and 3,014 ethnic minority adults, alongside twelve in-depth qualitative focus groups across the UK.
The research was commissioned by British Future as part of its three-year Voices for Equity: moving from evidence to action project, funded by the Nuffield Foundation’s Race Diversity UK (RDUK) programme.
