England United: Pride not prejudice

‘England United; Pride not prejudice – a toolkit for those who want to speak up for an inclusive England’ aims to help institutions, community organisations and public voices to speak up for an inclusive English identity that rejects prejudice.

Published by British Future, it includes new research into what the public, including ethnic minorities, thinks about English identity and its symbols. It also features communications advice and tested messages for those wanting to champion an inclusive Englishness. Case studies highlight projects that have successfully communicated an English pride that is open to all.

The toolkit includes specific sections on St George’s Day and the 2026 World Cup. The research uncovers an appetite to make St George’s Day events feels more inclusive; and also that the England football team is seen as the most unifying symbol of the nation.
