The 2024 Parliament will be Britain’s most diverse ever, with a record number of ethnic minority MPs taking seats in the Commons, according to new analysis of final candidate selections by British Future.
The General Election will see the biggest ever increase in minority representation. With around 14% of the new parliament’s MPs coming from an ethnic minority background, Westminster will be closer than ever before to reflecting the diversity of the electorate.
Progress on gender equality will be slower, however. While there will be more female MPs in the 2024 parliament than ever before, only around 4 in 10 MPs will be women, while they make up 51% of the electorate.
