‘Control and compassion: a new plan for an effective and fair UK asylum system’ is a new policy paper from British Future setting out constructive proposals for asylum reforms that seek to significantly reduce Channel crossings, cut the asylum backlog and associated use of hotel accommodation and break the deadlock with France to secure a new deal on security, routes and returns.
The report sets out 10 proposals for asylum reform. At the centre of this is a new humanitarian visa to enable people to come safely to the UK to claim asylum.
Our aim in this is to contribute new thinking on actionable, real-world proposals that could make a difference in addressing backlogs and reducing dangerous boat crossings, including by fleshing out what a new safe route could look like
