The final report of the Independent Commission on Inclusion and Belonging in Multi-Ethnic Newham calls for Newham to become a national leader on inclusion by strengthening community connection in one of the UK’s most diverse boroughs.
Based on a year of engagement with residents, community groups and institutions, the report finds strong local pride in diversity but also highlights challenges linked to rapid change.
It recommends creating more shared spaces and events, improving support for new arrivals, launching a “Newham Changemaker Network” to develop local leaders, and protecting valued community spaces such as libraries and youth centres.
The Commission urges Newham Council to provide clear leadership and coordinate a shared action plan to ensure all residents feel they belong and can thrive.
