Stretching the length of the summer the World Shakespeare Festival will celebrate the legacy of the ‘World’s Playwrite’.
Lead by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) it will draw in 60 partners from around the UK staging performances in England, Wales, Scotland and online.
Over a million tickets are on sale for the largest celebration of Shakespeare ever held. The festival is part of the London 2012 celebrations and will form a cornerstone of this summer’s Cultural Olympiad.
Highlights will include a performance of West Side Story, and Romeo and Juliet in Baghdad by the Iraqi Theatre Production, the performance will be in Arabic, but with English subtitles.
