OUR CHANCE TO RECONNECT – How and why society must come together following the Covid-19 crisis.

Over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic we have grown as a society. We have become acutely aware of the importance of social connection in our lives. We understood the value of these social interactions in our wider society and for our individual wellbeing. Many people came together to look out for one another, their neighbours, their friends, and those less fortunate than them throughout this crisis.

Yet, at the same time, society has at times felt increasingly divided. Our politics has been more polarised. Our minds more anxious. Our opportunities have seemed more defined by our age, our race, our faith, our health or where we live, as Covid-19 has shone a light on existing inequalities and underlying divisions.

Exploring these themes, this webinar by /Together and British Future discusses the findings of Talk/together, the UK’s biggest ever public conversation on what unites us, what divides us, and what could bring our society together. Drawing on leading voices, our panel explore how we can learn the lessons of the last 12 months to bridge our divides and reconnect again as we come out of the Covid-19 crisis.

Talk/together: Our chance to reconnect was conducted by British Future for /Together, a coalition that everyone is invited to join, from community groups across the country to some of the UK’s best-known organisations, which aims to help build kinder, closer and more connected communities in the aftermath of COVID-19. The research heard from nearly 160,000 individuals, and is the biggest survey of public attitudes during the Covid-19 pandemic to date.

Panellists:

– Danny Kruger MBE, Conservative MP for Devizes and author of ‘Levelling up our communities’

– Gaby Hinsliff, Columnist and feature writer for The Guardian

– Jill Rutter, Lead author of Talk/Together: Our chance to reconnect

– Sunder Katwala, Director, British Future (Chair)
