Refugee Jubilee Street Party
Event type:Date:
Location: Trinity Gardens, Brixton
Bunting and Jubilee-themed cakes were in plentiful supply as refugees who have come to Britain during the Queen’s reign came to Trinity Gardens in Brixton to celebrate and give thanks to the country that gave them sanctuary.
The event, co-hosted by the Refugee Council, featured music from Brazil, food from Afghanistan, and traditional Jubilee face painting and hat making.
After the food was served, refugees recreated an iconic photo taken 60 years ago of Vietnamese refugees holding a banner thanking the Queen for sanctuary in Britain. A giant telegram was also on display at the street party that was signed by attendees and sent to the Queen congratulating her on her Diamond Jubilee.
