“London Needs More Immigration”
Event type:Date:
Location: Great Hall, Guildhall, Gresham Street, London EC2V 7HH
Immigration has become one of the most central – and divisive – issues ahead of next year’s general election. Many voters tell pollsters that it worries them more than the state of our schools, the NHS, even the economy.
Yet even as some demand tighter controls, immigration has also become an integral part of London’s life and economy.
Does London need more immigration? This is the topic for a major public debate, jointly hosted by the Evening Standard and the City of London at the Guildhall. Leading figures taking part include Nigel Farage, leader of UKIP, former cabinet minister Tessa Jowell, David Lammy, MP for Tottenham, Evening Standard columnist Melanie McDonagh, David Goodhart of Prospect magazine and Simon Walker, director general of the Institute of Directors.
