Britons are feeling positive going into the new year. Polling in our new report State of the nation: Where is bittersweet Britain heading? showed that, compared to this time last year, we’re feeling less gloomy about our country, and about the economy. The highs of 2012, the Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee, brought us together as a nation, offering a chance for real national pride.
But there’s plenty to divide us in 2013. The first teenage year of the 21st Century could prove to be an awkward one for Britain, with concern over immigration and the economy, and a belief that the hardship a lot of us will face in 2013 might not be spread evenly across gender, class and age.
