Englishness is on the rise, in many ways. Despite our diversity, if we live in England we are increasingly identifying ourselves as English first and British second. What does English identity mean today? And what are its implications for life in this country?
British Future and IPPR will be hosting the Festival of Englishness this autumn to address these questions. A range of leading politicians, writers, journalists, comedians and other personalities will be involved. By exploring ideas from books and films, comedy and sport, as well as discussing political and regional questions, this festival will examine the many faces of modern English identity in a fun and informative way.
