To celebrate the first birthday of British Future and the launch of our 2013 State of the Nation poll, we hosted Bittersweet Britain: What unites & what divides us? on Tuesday 22nd January.

Held on the iconic HMS Belfast and chaired by journalist Mary Riddell, the event saw six people from diverse backgrounds debate the central challenges of 2013. Panellists included retired army officer Major General Tim Cross CBE, sports writer Mihir Bose, Dr Linda Patterson, clinical vice-president at the Royal College of Physicians, Jessica Walker, a member of the Leadership Programme at UpRising, and Matthew Oakley, head of economics and social policy at Policy Exchange.

Those attending the event had a chance to ask questions and then toast British Future’s anniversary over wine and cake. Read our blogger’s review of the debate here and enjoy the slide show below.
